Each hall receives points based on its finish in each event as indicated in the table below. In the individual events the number of points earned per first-year resident determines finishes. So if a Hall A has 300 first-year residents and earns 2100 participation points, Hall A earned 7 points per resident. If Hall B with 125 first-year residents earned 1000 participation points, Hall B earned 8 points per resident. Consequently Hall B finished higher than Hall A.
